Behavior and Emotion Assessment

BASC-3 Behavioral and Emotion Assessment

In neuropsychological assessment, we not only examine cognitive functions such as memory or attention, but we also dedicate a fundamental section to behavior and emotional regulation .

We use the Behavior Assessment System for Children and Adolescents, Third Edition (BASC-3) , one of the most respected and comprehensive tools worldwide, to obtain a clear and multifaceted picture of the individual's socio-emotional and behavioral functioning.

What is BASC-3 and why is it multi-source?

The BASC-3 is a multi-source, multi-scale assessment system designed to identify and classify the behavioral and emotional strengths and weaknesses of children, adolescents, and young adults, from preschool age to early adulthood (18 years-11 months).

The multi-source nature is crucial to offering an objective and complete perspective, as it allows information to be compared from multiple angles:

  1. Parent Scales: Evaluates parents' perceptions of their children's behavior at home and in the community.

  2. Scales for Teachers: Evaluates the child's behavior in the school environment, a key context for learning and socialization.

  3. Self-report: Allows adolescents and young people (from 8 years old) to express their own perceptions about their feelings, emotions and attitudes.

Benefits of the BASC-3 Assessment

Integrating BASC-3 results into neuropsychological assessment allows us to:

  • Differentiate: Distinguish between primary behavioral problems and those that are a consequence of cognitive or learning difficulties (e.g., the frustration of not being able to concentrate that leads to aggression).

  • Identify: Detect early indicators of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Anxiety Disorders and Depression.

  • Planning: Develop a truly personalized intervention plan that not only addresses cognitive weaknesses, but also includes effective behavioral and emotional management strategies both at home and at school.

  • Monitor: Establish a clear baseline to measure the effectiveness of interventions over time.
