Episode #9: Innovating in Social Well-being - Community for Adult Neurodiversity in Panama - Connect ND Neurodiverse Minds

Entrepreneurial Brain Chapter #9: Connect ND Neurodiverse Minds – Innovating in Social Wellbeing for Adult Neurodiversity in Panama.

In this ninth installment of Entrepreneurial Brain , a Neuropsyedu space dedicated to projects that impact health and well-being, we talk with Daniel Suárez , founder of Conecta ND: Neurodiverse Minds .

This initiative arises in the heart of Panama to fill a gap in the neurodiverse adult population: the lack of social spaces to connect within a non-therapeutic community.

The Origin:

Daniel Suárez experienced this firsthand, realizing that most support in the country is focused on children. This led to his vision of creating a place where adults could "take off their social masks" and simply be themselves.

A Sensory and Social Value Proposition

Conecta ND is not therapy; it's a community. Its weekly meetings in Panama City are planned around the following pillars:

  • Sensory Safety: Warm lighting, noise control, and regulation areas to prevent sensory exhaustion.

  • Predictability and Flexibility: Clear structures (such as film forums or games) that provide security, but allow for group spontaneity.

  • Authenticity: A judgment-free space where interaction occurs organically between peers.

Vision of Impact on Mental Health

Neurodiversity in adults in Panama faces challenges of isolation and loneliness. Conecta ND combats this through:

  1. Genuine Connections: Fostering friendships that transcend meetings.

  2. Social Education: Eliminating stereotypes about different brain processing.

  3. Local Reference: To become the model of social inclusion for neurodivergent adults at the national level.

"Neurodiversity is a different way of being, perceiving, and processing the world, and we all deserve a place to belong." — Daniel Suárez.
