The Centro Integral de Neuropsicología Educativa S.A, in collaboration with its Mental Health Innovation Department, has achieved a significant milestone: the successful completion of a four-month incubation period within the City of Knowledge Foundation's Startup Incubation Program. This achievement has been instrumental in cultivating our flagship project: NeuroCog Training.

What is a Startup Incubation Program?

Broadly speaking, it is a strategic initiative designed to accelerate the development of innovative, high-impact ventures. In the initial phase, the City of Knowledge Foundation carefully selects projects with growth potential, offering them a supportive ecosystem.

As a Mental Health Center, we had the distinct privilege of being selected, gaining access to benefits that have profoundly enriched our professional practice. We received personalized mentorship, connecting us with experts and methodologies to validate business models, develop services, and scale operations effectively. Furthermore, we accessed crucial networking spaces, connecting with investors, fellow entrepreneurs, and key players in the innovation ecosystem, both in Panama and internationally. In essence, through intensive training and strategic guidance, we gained a clear roadmap for transforming a business concept into reality.

Identifying the Gap: The Case of Special Educational Needs (SEN)

During the Incubation Program, we directed our focus toward one of the most pressing social and educational issues observed in our daily work.

At our Center, where a large part of our work focuses on the assessment, intervention, and support of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and their families, we identified a significant gap in the interdisciplinary link required to support and guide these cases.

To validate and measure this problem, we conducted a validation process with local schools and Research Centers, identifying several key barriers:

  • Need for Teacher Specialization: Current teacher training is often limited to general didactics. There is a lack of specific training programs in neurodiversity and inclusive pedagogical methods, exacerbated in some cases by a low interest in specialized continuous education.

  • Insufficient Support Structures: The educational system has an opportunity to expand the coverage offered by psychopedagogical cabinets nationwide, which currently limits direct support to students.

  • Challenges in Family-School-Specialist Coordination: Communication between schools, families, and specialists needs improvement. Parents often experience delays in seeking specialized care for their children. Furthermore, teachers require greater support and tools to improve educational quality for students with SEN.

  • Methodological and Resource Obstacles: The use of technology in the classroom is often minimal. A lack of clarity in SEN diagnoses leaves teachers without the necessary guidance to implement effective accommodations. The Panamanian educational system requires technological tools to enhance student learning capabilities.

NeuroCog Training: The Digital Toolkit

To minimize these gaps and offer a genuine support ecosystem for the educational community, we conceived a solution that acts as an integrative bridge. NeuroCog Training was born—a digital toolkit focused on:

  • Building an open communication channel between teachers, specialists, and parents.

  • Offering truly personalized and coherent educational support.

  • Centralizing the secure storage of student records and progress.

  • Providing teachers with highly customizable cognitive training activities based on each student's profile.

  • Training teachers and specialists in neurodiversity, accommodations, and inclusive education.

The Incubation Journey and the Final Stretch

This has been a deeply enriching experience. As mental health professionals, the incubation program forced us to step out of our clinical comfort zone and build a bridge of knowledge toward the world of technology-based entrepreneurship.

It has been more than just business training; it has been a roadmap for social impact. We discovered that the most disruptive innovation generates not only profit but also resolves structural social problems. NeuroCog Training is our answer to the educational equity gap in Panama. Today, with a business vision, we are closer to moving from an idea to a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) phase.
